FreshDirect announced late last week that the company’s Founder and CEO, Jason Ackerman has stepped down after twenty years with the company. Co-Founder David McInerney is assuming the role of CEO and will join the Board of Directors.
“Jason and I have worked together since the beginning, and we are very proud of what we have accomplished over the years. This is a very exciting time for the company, as we settle into our new home,” McInerney shared, in a press release. “I look forward to working with the entire FreshDirect team, as we usher the company into this next chapter of growth.”
McInerney served as Chief Merchandising Officer before taking on the role of CEO upon Ackerman’s departure. In his previous role, McInerney oversaw food sources, buying, and merchandising. He traveled all over the world to develop relationships with the company’s producer partners.
Two years ago, FreshDirect noted in its press release, the company expanded its portfolio with the launch of FoodKick—a branch of the business that includes on-demand business for city residents and showcases curated food, alcohol, and essentials.
And this year, the online fresh food grocer will move forward with its FreshDirect Campus, a state-of-the-art facility in New York City’s South Bronx. This development reimagines farm-to-fork food distribution and manufacturing, as it provides high-quality fresh food for customers.
“Over the last 20 years, we have built and grown this business into an industry leader, one that truly makes a difference in the lives of our customers,” Ackerman expressed. “Building FreshDirect and FoodKick alongside an incredible group of talented people has been a tremendous experience. I am confident the team will continue to drive the business forward and stay true to our unwavering commitment to deliver the best quality food with outstanding customer service.”
