As shoppers continue to look for tasty eats to round out their busy lives, Hy-Vee has rolled out another new concept to answer consumer demand. The retailer has announced a super-sized convenience store to give shoppers access to fresh on-the-go items, and cut down on shopping time.
“What we’re trying to do with this concept is meet the needs of those folks who live busy lives,” Phil Hoey, Hy-Vee’s real-estate director, told the Lakeville City Council. “So this is quite a bit larger than the largest convenience store you’ve been in.”
Bringing this convenience-minded format and gas station to Lakeville, MN, this announcement comes just two years after the retailer entered the Minneapolis-St. Paul market. According to local source, Twin Cities Pioneer Press, the concept is slated at 8,800-square-feet.
The convenience store has been approved to build on a lot three miles away from a 91,000-square-foot Hy-Vee supermarket. The location will offer prepared meals, feature a smaller iterations of the company's usual produce, dairy, and meat departments, along with the Market Grill restaurant and a Starbucks coffee shop.
Group Vice President of Communications Tara Deering-Hansen confirmed that the company is looking at other Twin Cities locations for the super-sized convenience store concept, according to the source.
Hy-Vee also recently unveiled its Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh format, measuring between 12,000- and 16,000-square-feet. This concept was launched in West Des Moines, IA, demonstrating that the retailer is no stranger to exploring new concepts. Earlier this year, the company also announced a corporate restructuring.
