Lidl Looking to Enter Texas Retail Market

Lidl Looking to Enter Texas Retail Market

ARLINGTON, VA
Wednesday, October 12th, 2016

Amid a swirling national scheme of retail contenders, it looks as though the especially tight market of Texas is about to get a little more competitive with the now impending entrance of Lidl US. The company announced that it has now added Texas to its list for expansion, to support the chain’s forthcoming U.S. debut.

Will Harwood, Public Relations and Communications Manager, Lidl US

"We are in the early stages of our preparation to launch in the U.S., and have not yet made individual store announcements," Lidl's Public Relations and Communications Manager, Will Harwood, said in an email to the Houston Business Journal. "Our focus right now is in our operations along the East Coast, but we are also looking at sites in Texas."

The discount retailer emphasized that although it was unable to list specific locations or regions within Texas to add it to its already flourishing store list, Lidl US  is indeed adding Texas to its prospective list.

Prior to this announcement, Lidl US stated that as it undergoes construction on its numerous operations, the retailer has been eying the East Coast for new locations. Texas’ addition will make an even bigger boost for the German-based chain’s expansion.

Lidl first started implementing its plans for U.S.-based operations back in 2015, and since then has been selecting specific locations for its corporate headquarters, regional headquarters, distribution centers in several states, and planned store locations.

One particularly hot spot for the Texas retail market is Houston. If Lidl US chooses to place a store there, the retailer will compete for consumers with the likes of Aldi, Walmart, Kroger, H-E-B, and more.

Will Lidl US project its  operations into the Texas market, and in which areas will it possibly choose to land? Deli Market News will unveil the news as it unfolds.
