Mere weeks after breaking into the U.S. market, retail newcomer Lidl US has announced another major expansion on our domestic soil. The German-owned chain will launch a new facility, establish a new regional headquarters, and open its next wave of locations.
As Lidl continues to hone its U.S.-based strategies, the discount retailer has pinned Georgia as its next distribution hub. The retailer will open a new regional headquarters and distribution center in Cartersville, GA.
“We are excited to announce new growth and investment in our U.S. expansion,” said Brendan Proctor, President and CEO of Lidl US. “Our Cartersville facility will help us efficiently deliver top quality goods to our future customers throughout the area. We selected Bartow County because it offers an outstanding workforce, a centralized location for our distribution network, and because Bartow County is a great place for our employees to work and live. We look forward to being part of this community and thank Governor Nathan Deal, as well as local leaders, for their support throughout this process.”
The new distribution facility is valued around $100 million, according to a press release. Over the next five years, the distribution center will also create 250 jobs for the surrounding community. The new regional headquarters and distribution center will join those already established in Spotsylvania County, Virginia; Alamance County, North Carolina; and Cecil County, Maryland.
Lidl US is also prepping to launch its next wave of new stores in the American buy-side market. The retailer announced that four new locations will open in Virginia and North Carolina on Thursday, July 13, and join the ten stores which opened earlier this month.
“Since opening our doors two weeks ago, we have begun the journey of serving our customers with top quality products at the best possible prices every single day,” Proctor continued in a release. “We are excited to announce today that we will be bringing the Lidl experience to even more communities in Virginia and North Carolina in a few short weeks. At Lidl, we are committed to providing our customers with a simpler, more efficient shopping experience with better choices at lower prices so they can shop with confidence.”
Kicking off with ribbon cuttings at 7:40 a.m., Lidl US will open its doors to consumers at 8:00 a.m. Shoppers will be able to take advantage of grand opening specials, with chances to win $100 in gift cards, and other games, activities, prizes, deals, and giveaways planned.
The new locations will be as follows:
All the stores will feature the same buzz inducing features as the previously opened Lidl US locations. Lidl offers consumers a 20,000-square-foot layout to shop in, with organic and gluten-free options, amongst other offerings.
