Marsh Supermarkets is gearing up for its biggest move in years as it plans to remodel more than 50 of its 73 existing locations and add 13 new stores, all by 2018.
“We are being really aggressive and looking for potential acquisition partners,” said CEO Tom O’Boyle, according to The Indianapolis Star. “Whether smaller chains or larger chains, we think we’re in position to look for acquisitions to expand the Marsh brand.”
While it’s unclear where these first locations will be, O’Boyle said that the first stores could be bought as soon as the next several weeks.
The grocer’s expansion plans comes on the heels of its increased confidence due to rising sales. O’Boyle played a large role in driving the company’s success since his appointment in 2012.
Over the past eighteen months, Marsh has reportedly spent tens of millions of dollars on store improvements, including full remodels on seven stores and improvements on 16 stores, with 30 more planned for 2016.
“I challenge any other company to say they’re going to remodel, in some shape or form, 70 percent of their stores over two and a half years,” said O’Boyle.
O’Boyle also told The Indianapolis Star that he’s looking to open three new locations in the next year, with five more each in the two years following.
The grocer is confident in its growth plan, saying that is the best in fresh for Indianapolis’ supermarket offerings and will continue to vie for consumer favor.
