Publix Eyes its First East Nashville Market

Publix Eyes its First East Nashville Market

Friday, October 26th, 2018

Florida-based grocer Publix may be gearing up to enter a new market in the coming months. According to reports by the Nashville Business Journal, the retailer has its eye on the Athens of the South—and will soon expand into Nashville, Tennessee.

According to the Journal, Publix is currently working with H.G. Hill Realty Co. and plans to anchor the developer’s new Hill Center Greenwood. Planning documents filed by the developer shows an image of a trash compactor with a Publix label on it, and a source familiar with the development separately confirmed the retailer’s involvement to the news source.

Publix has also finalized plans for two additional Nashville locations, in recent months—one in the Melrose neighborhood and one in Capitol View.

Publix is in talks to open a store in a forthcoming shopping center, Hill Center Greenwood, in Nashville

Brenda Reid, Publix’s Media and Community Relations Manager, told the Journal that the company has not signed a lease for an East Nashville location, and developer Jimmy Granbery declined to comment.

Opening dates for the Hill Center Greenwood have yet to be finalized, though the shopping center is slated for completion in the second quarter of 2020.

Will Publix succeed in gaining ground in the Nashville metro area? Deli Market News will continue to report.
