Sobeys Executive Claude Tessier Resigns

Retail industry veteran Claude Tessier has delivered his resignation from his role as President of Sobeys’ Quebec branch.

He has departed from the chain to pursue an opportunity as Chief Financial Officer for Couche-Tard, the Canadian convenience store giant.

Claude Tessier, Chief Financial Officer, Couche-Tard“In addition to overseeing the financial, reporting, and investor relations functions in Couche-Tard, I look forward to joining President and Chief Executive Officer Brian Hannasch in evaluating opportunities for further expansion under the new, global Circle K brand,” Tessier said in a written statement, commenting that he is excited to join the Couche-Tard team. “I am thrilled at this opportunity to play a part in Couche-Tard’s continuing strategic growth and reaching its goal to become the world’s preferred destination for convenience and fuel.”

Tessier added that the chain, which operates 8,006 convenience stores throughout North America, is “one of the true success stories of Quebec.”

Having started his retail career with Sobeys in 2003, Tessier joined in the industry after joining IGA as Vice President of Finance & Strategic Planning. He has more than 15 years of professional leadership experience, having worked in head roles for Provigo and Costco previously.

Simon Gagné, Chief Human Resources Officer, SobeysIn his stead, Sobeys announced that its Chief Human Resources Officer, Simon Gagné, will oversee the company’s Quebec business unit until a replacement is found.
