Southeastern Grocers is slashing prices across several staple categories in the retailer’s stores, including meat, dairy, and more, adding to upwards of 400 items.
“We know that almost one in five people in the Southeast are relying on food subsidies to feed their families every week,” Ian McLeod, President and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, said in a press release. “It is therefore not surprising that our customer surveys report that ‘affordable prices’ is the most important requirement from a grocery store.”
The company is the parent of retailer banners Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie, both of which have announced a recent cut in prices, adding up to more than 3,000 discounted items.
The new pricing program, aptly called “Down Down,” looks to cut prices up to half the original tag, which will remain in effect for the next six months at least.
“Savings are so significant that a family shopping at Bi-Lo or Winn-Dixie will now save over $700 this year as a result of these lower prices,” McLeod said. “This is a meaningful difference for any household budget.”
With approximately 756 grocery stores throughout several states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, as well as both North and South Carolina, this means a wide range of savings and the potential for a stronger loyalty over a wide span of the Eastern Seaboard for Southeast Grocers.
DeliMarket News will continue to follow the retail chain’s movements to see how this new strategy affect its consumer base, and if others will follow.
