As curbside pickup continues to trend up in retail practices, designers are looking to an entirely new style of grocery shopping.
Drive Market, a recent concept by Russian inventor Semenov Dahir Kurmanbievich, would take curbside pickup to the next level for the retail grocery circuit. Just as the name entails, the design would mean that the consumer would do all of its grocery shopping from the seat of their vehicle.
Kurmanbievich’s design, which has a patent pending, is compared to a gas station but more resembles a Sonic or classic A&W, which can be seen in the digital concept video below from Futurism.
Like a rolodex, every department of the store, from deli, to center, to produce, is depicted at different “stations” of the Drive Market, before going to an attendant for checkout just as you would in a drive thru pharmacy or fast food joint.
The process is only to take five minutes, with everything being bagged for the consumer.
The concept also boasts minimum hands needed to keep inventory stocked and registers manned, meaning lower employment costs.
Is this high-tech, state-of-the-art concept the beginning of the next generation of retail? We’ll see soon enough...
