The Modena province of Italy hosted the 22nd edition of Acetaie Aperte on September 29, showcasing a record 40 Balsamic Vinegar producers. The annual event promotes and celebrates the production of authentic Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI and Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PDO in the Modena province, inviting locals and tourists alike to explore Modena's renowned "black gold" through guided visits, tastings, and vineyard tours.
"Food and wine represent an opportunity for the entire region to stimulate and diversify tourism, promoting local, economic development,” said Mariangela Grosoli, President of the Balsamic Vinegar of Modena Consortium and Vice President of The Land of Balsamico. "Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI and Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PDO with their history, unique production processes, and versatility in both Italian and global cuisines, make them two of the most beloved Made in Italy 'ambassadors' in the world. Welcoming tourists into our acetaie is the best way to bring awareness and give value to our sector. In addition, many producers are also able to lead visits throughout the year, which many people don't know."
The increased number of participating producers reflected growing public interest in the history and production of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI and Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PDO, according to the press release.
"The growing appreciation for enogastronomic tourism, an industry that is beneficial for tourism development overall, brings additional revenue for the agricultural system and sustains the promotion, production, and education implemented by both Consortia," remarked Enrico Corsini, President of the Land of Balsamico initiative and the Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena Consortium.
Corsini added that the two Consortia together organized the event to introduce visitors to producers.
"We are constantly striving to educate our consumers, allowing them to distinguish between the real deal, authentic products and imitators," he concluded.
Highlighting year-round opportunities to many acetaie, visitors were invited to participate in various activities alongside vinegar-focused opportunities to showcase production methods and spotlight the history of these gastronomic icons.
