Competition is in the air as Wisconsin Cheese embarks on a hunt for the nation’s most creative holiday cheese boards. Bringing new attention to the dairy case, the organization is currently hosting its six-week cheese board competition to inspire consumers to turn delicious dairy products into an art form—and to crown a Cheese Board Award winner, of course.
“In Wisconsin, we truly believe that great cheese makes the world a happier, tastier place, and we know that cheese lovers across the country will be gathering together over cheese boards this holiday season,” says Suzanne Fanning, Chief Marketing Officer for Wisconsin Cheese and Senior Vice President at Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin. “Since our fans will already be creating beautiful boards, we want to encourage everyone to share images, so cheese lovers can inspire each other, and we can honor best-in-class Wisconsin cheese boards from the holiday’s most incredible hosts. We can’t wait to see what people create!”
The competition is officially open as of November 3, and any cheese board aficionado can be named champion and win a year’s supply of cheese for themselves and a friend, as well as a cheese donation to the food pantry of their choice.
According to a press release, a panel of three judges will review submissions each week to determine who creates the best cheese board, including Marissa Mullen, the best-selling author, content creator, and Founder of That Cheese Plate; Cheeselandian and former cheesemonger Doug Clemens of The Cheese Tray Gay; and Alisha Norris Jones award-winning cheesemonger of Immortal Milk.
Entries will be based on board abundance, usage of Wisconsin cheese, and color and creativity. Over the contest’s six-week period, the weekly winners will be finalists for the grand prize. Finalists will be announced on the Wisconsin Cheese Facebook and Instagram channels, where judges will also be sharing inspirational content for award-winning creations.
The winners chosen each week will also receive a cheese prize pack comprising a cheese board, cheese knives, cheese paper, $100 worth of Wisconsin Cheese, and more. Individuals who place second, third, and fourth each week will also receive a custom cheese board.
All eligible entries must include three photos: the final Wisconsin cheese board creation, the Wisconsin Cheese packaging, and the creator with their masterpiece. Contest entries will be accepted through 12/16 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Full details of the competition can be found here.
