Plant-based is all the rage in specialty food. Specializing in turkey, beef, and pork jerky, Perky Jerky recently entered a new partnership to compete with other plant-based brands in the snacking aisle. Alongside Improved Nature, the company released a plant-based jerky line, including Sea Salt & Pepper and Tasty Teriyaki, available nationwide.
Improved Nature is a new plant-based protein line founded by Dr. Rody Hawkins and others, and launched in 2015. Improved Nature’s proprietary process turns plant protein into plant-based meat alternatives that provide the same taste and texture consumers desire. This new partnership is meant to enhance the original Perky Jerky product line by providing a plant-based jerky option that provides high-quality protein made with minimal, clean-label ingredients.

Plant-based foods have exploded in popularity over the past few years. According to a press release, consumer demand is quickly shifting toward plant-based proteins due to the perceived health and environmental benefits. The global market for plant-based foods is projected to reach $5.2 billion by the year’s end.
The target consumers for Perky Jerky’s new products range from meat reducers and flexitarians to meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans.
