Cheese lovers of the world will be overjoyed to hear that the California Artisan Cheese Guild’s (CACG) SF Cheese Fest will be returning for its fifth year. Taking place from September 14-15, the Cheese Fest offers two days of cheese education and celebration. To kick off the event, attendees are invited to enjoy the popular walk-around tasting event, Cheesemaker Celebration at the historic Social Hall SF. The second day of the Cheese Fest will feature delicious and hands-on Sunday Seminars with The Cheese School of San Francisco.
“SF Cheese Fest has become a favorite yearly tradition for local foodies and cheese lovers, and its fifth anniversary is an important milestone for the artisan cheese community,” said CACG Executive Director, Anthea Stolz, in a press release. “We're excited to pay homage to California's pioneering and innovative spirit, past and present, through the lens of cheese. This is an exciting opportunity to showcase the rich and evolving stories of cheesemaking in the Golden State.”
The theme of this year’s festival is “Pioneering Spirit,” to honor the event’s fifth anniversary and the innovative and pioneering artisans who blazed a trail in California cheesemaking. The theme embodies not only the legacy of the past, but also the motivating and inspiring spirit of today’s cheesemakers. A notable aspect of this year’s theme is that it pays tribute to the history of the amazing female cheesemakers of California.
Over 20 Guild-member cheesemakers from across the state will be in attendance at the Cheesemaker Celebration, and there will, of course, be cheese sampling galore. The tasting event will also feature local preserves, pickles, and charcuterie, along with beer, cider, and wine for unique pairings. Attendees will be treated to live music and a free 1-year subscription to Culture Magazine. Tickets for both days will go on sale July 16.
The roster of participating cheese companies ranges from pioneering cheesemakers Cowgirl Creamery, Cypress Grove, and Point Reyes Farmstead to local favorites Achadinha Cheese, Moonside Creamery, Folly Cheese Co., and Tomales Farmstead Creamery. From the around the state, Central Coast Creamery, Nicolau Farms, Sierra Nevada Cheese Company, and Rumiano Cheese Company will join the festivities, alongside Beehive Cheese, and newcomers to the SF Cheese Fest scene, Daily Driver SF and Belfiore Cheese Company.
