Unilever Announces New Squeeze Bottle Technology for Hellmann's Plant-Based Mayo; Krassimir Velikov Comments

A new innovation is coming to market thanks to legacy brand Hellmann’s. The Unilever brand has announced new squeeze bottle technology for its plant-based mayo. The offering was introduced by the research and development team, led by Krassimir Velikov, Senior Science and Program Leader, Science and Technology.

Krassimir Velikov, Senior Science and Program Leader, Science and Technology, Unilever“We know consumers want to be able to squeeze out as much product as possible—it’s an important cost and value benefit,” Velikov stated in an interview. “And with both the plant-based market and our squeeze bottle formats set to continue growing, improving consumer experience and satisfaction is vital.”

According to Unilever’s announcement, the primary challenge for this offering was to create an edible, vegan coating to make the inside of the bottle more slippery, ultimately allowing consumers to get as much product as possible out of the bottle.

“About 60 percent of global food waste in 2022 happened in our kitchens, which is why Hellmann’s has been working to help consumers reduce food waste at home through its Make Taste, Not Waste campaign since 2021,” Velikov continued. “And that applies as much to the mayonnaise left behind in bottles as it does to leftovers in the fridge.”

The announcement went on to note that Hellmann’s plant-based products have enjoyed growth for the last four years, and this is expected to continue with the market predicted to double by 2030.
