Unilever Shutters Ice Cream Facility

HENDERSON, NV
Wednesday, June 26th, 2019

Over the past year, Unilever has been snapping up businesses and adding them to its portfolio. However, the company is not short of a desire to trim back some of its operations. It recently announced that it plans to close its ice cream manufacturing facility in Henderson, Nevada, by the end of August 2019.

According to a report from Reuters, the closure of the facility will result in 300 lost jobs. Those currently employed there have been encouraged by Unilever to apply for other positions at open sites.

The Henderson, Nevada facility's production will be transfered to other ice cream production facilities

“The closure of our Henderson facility is in the best long-term interest of our business,” Catherine Reynolds, Corporate Communications Manager, said to the news source. She also noted that the facility’s production will be transferred to factories in Sikeston, Missouri; Covington, Tennesse; and Vermont.

Reynolds explained which brands the plant manufactured for, which included Ben and Jerry’s, Breyers, Magnum, Popsicle, Good Humor, and Klondike.

Is Unilever planning to acquire another ice cream business instead? What does this facility closure mean for popular brands like Breyers and Ben and Jerry’s? Deli Market News will be here to report.
