It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: the registration for the 2023 United States Championship Cheese Contest! Entry is open now through January 18, 2023, and all entries will be evaluated February 21–23 at Resch Expo in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
“With evaluations grounded in rigorous standards and a competitive field of respected cheesemakers from across the country, this competition is unique in its technicality and prestige. We’re pleased to offer this opportunity for the nation’s dairy processors to improve their craft and grow their businesses,” said Kirsten Strohmenger, Events Manager for the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA), which hosts the contest.
According to the release, a total of 118 classes will be judged on characteristics such as flavor, body, texture, salt, color, finish, and packaging. Competitors will have real-time access to their scores and evaluations through MyEntries©, a secure online entry system.
Eager to take part? The entry window is now open, and participants can enjoy a special entry rate on all submissions of cheese, butter, yogurt, and dry dairy products now through December 1. Early entrants can receive a $10 savings on entry fees. This year’s Contest in Green Bay will culminate in a live-streamed announcement, where we will have the new U.S. Champion Cheese for 2023.
In 2019, Guggisberg Cheese’s Baby Swiss Wheel made by Team Guggisberg Doughty Valley in Millersburg, Ohio, earned the title of U.S. Champion Cheese with an impressive score of 98.543 out of 100. That year, a record-setting 2,555 entries from 35 states were evaluated by a team of 60 expert judges.
We here at Deli Market News cannot wait for the amazing cheese to take the stage at the contest!
