KeHE Distributors has recently opened its latest state-of-the-art distribution center in Portland, Oregon.
The new LEED Certified facility includes over 100,000 square feet of refrigerated space and 57,000 square feet of freezer space, according to a press release.
The specialty food provider said that the building is key to the company’s growth plan in the Northwest Region, calling it an important addition that will lead to better service for customers in the area.
Mike Leone, Chief Commerical Officer, said that he was excited about this facility, adding that it serves to highlight the company's commitment to its growing customer base.
“We are excited about our new facility,” said Mike Leone, Chief Commercial Officer. “It strategically aligns with our long-term growth strategy and demonstrates our commitment to our increased customer base on the West Coast. Our customers continue to receive the benefits of our growing, national organization.”
The facility is both highly efficient and sustainable, capable of reducing the company's environmental footprint significantly. KeHE estimates that 100 tons of cardboard will be recycled annually and more than thirty tons of petroleum will be saved by recycling plastic. In addition, the facility uses motion-operated LED lighting to further reduce electricity consumption.
“It is exciting to see how our Portland team has embraced the upgraded facility,” said Gene Carter, Chief Operating Officer. “We think our customers will also.”
KeHE’s new facilities are being built from the ground up, which the company says allows them to focus on the environment and the people. Vendors are noticing the impact that KeHE is having on the region, not only in terms of sustainability, but also the additional points of distribution and more efficient shipping.
