This weekend, big names from the food movement—those dedicated to providing the best in tasty, authentic, and responsible food—will gather to celebrate the ninth annual Good Food Awards and honor its 224 winners—narrowed from the 401 finalists announced this November. A crowd of 900 is expected to gather at the historic Herbst Theater at the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center on Friday January 11 to hear a keynote speech from Dr. Jessica Harris and join Honorary Hosts Alice Waters and Carlo Petrini in recognizing some of the nation's best cheesemakers, preservers, brewers, roasters, and distillers.
The Awards will also pay homage to 19 of the country’s best independent merchants, according to a press release, who have banded together to lend their support as the Presenting Sponsor of the Good Food Awards. The group, led by the Bi-Rite Family of Businesses’s Sam Mogannam, will feature a diverse group of merchants including Di Bruno Brothers of Philadelphia, World Foods Portland, and the Zingerman’s family of businesses.
These 19 leading merchants will be taking part in the ceremony and attending the Good Food Mercantile the following day to congratulate winners and establish new wholesale relationships.
For merchants and media interested in stocking or promoting Good Food Awards honorees, the Good Food Mercantile SF, an “un-trade show” for tasty, authentic, and responsible food, will showcase nearly 150 of Good Food Guild Members in a one-day, intimate-in-scale event on Saturday, January 12.
And a limited number of tickets are available to join the exceptional food crafters and Blind Tasting judges at the Oscar-style Good Food Awards Ceremony and enjoy the After Party co-hosted by Bi-Rite Family of Businesses at San Francisco’s Airbnb headquarters.
Winners will then showcase their award-worthy products the following Sunday, January 13, at the Good Food Awards Marketplace held in conjunction with the Fort Mason Center Farmers’ Market. From 9 a.m. till 2 p.m., this vibrant gathering offers a once-a-year opportunity to meet with Good Food Awards winners and to sample and purchase their award-winning products.
