Maybe it’s the foodie in me, but for some reason nothing captivates me quite like a giant food spill. This week’s was particularly enthralling, because not only did a truck spill lead to spaghetti bolognese sprawled across a highway, but 22 massive tons of it.
Enough to close traffic in both directions for several hours, the great spaghetti disaster took place in the Shropshire area of the U.K. The Shropshire Star reported that the nearly 45,000 pounds of spaghetti ended up strewn across an entire 100 yards of the highway, dangling off the front wheels of the heavy goods vehicle carrying it.
How did this delicious catastrophe come to be? According to the report, the reasoning behind the mess is still a mystery. A police spokesman on the scene told the Shropshire Star, “There were around 20 tonnes of spaghetti bolognese and it was just loose,” adding, “the food is so thick and gloopy that it will take several hours to clear it up.”
Thankfully, the spokesman said there were no injuries to any humans resulting from the incident. The spaghetti, however, was sadly unsalvageable.
Will the mystery of the spilt spaghetti ever come to light? Our reporters will be diligently on the case.
