Spotted: 2015 Summer Fancy Food Show Food Trends

NEW YORK, NY
Wednesday, July 1st, 2015

Trendsetters were abound at this year’s Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City. Whether you’re looking for bold artisan flavors or healthy snack alternatives, you could find it in droves.

This year’s show featured more than your usual deli faire of charcuterie and cheese. Specialty items such as flower-infused drinks, sauces, beverages, and more took center stage to kick-start exciting flavor trends and bring new offerings to retailers including Kroger, Costco, and more.

Ann Daw, President, Specialty Food Association“The Specialty Food Association is in a perfect position to spot trends before they happen,” said Ann Daw, President of the Association, the Summer Fancy Food Show’s Owner and Producer. “Our show celebrates what’s next in specialty food as our exhibitors present the latest in specialty food to buyers eager to find new products and new twists on classics.”

The Specialty Food Association posted its Top 5 Food Trends spotted at the Fancy Food Show, including items that prominently featured gazpacho, beets, floral-inspired treats, cocktails, and corn.

The Association highlighted items such as Gazpacho de Sol from Tio Gazpacho; Love Beets' Beet-Blueberry Bar; Rogue Creamery's La-Di-Da Lavender Cheese; Bissell Maple Farms' Pappy & Company Bourbon Barrel-Aged Syrup; and Pop Art Snacks' Tandoori Yogurt Popcorn.

Our team on the show floor noticed that the success of women-run companies is a growing trend in the deli industry, such as Alexian Pâté & Terrines. There were also plenty of flavors from around the world, especially Africa and India, highlighting global food trends as well. We also noticed other specialty items like bacon jam from Skillet Street Food highlighted at the show.

Other trends spotted, according to the Association, included condiments with Asian flavors, intensely flavored ice creams and frozen desserts, new flavors and forms of jerky, and compound butters.

There were even some trends that made yet another appearance this year, proving that they’re continuing to gain momentum within the industry. These trends include coconut in more forms, artisanal sodas, ginger beverages and sweets, complexly flavored cocktail mixers, vegetables in chips to pops to yogurt, and continued expansion in gluten-free items.

This year’s show, now in its 61st year, hosted more than 22,000 attendees.
