Cargill announced that UnitedHealth Group’s CEO, Stephen J. Hemsley, has joined its Board of Directors.
"Steve's humility and depth of character are consistent with Cargill's values. Under his leadership, UnitedHealth Group not only has posted strong growth, it has built a values-based culture that has strengthened the company's reputation,” David MacLennan, Cargill's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said in a press release. “Steve also brings deep financial experience and broad exposure to complex, regulated markets.”
Hemsley, who has served UnitedHealth Group as its CEO since 2006, joins six other independent directors, including:
Hemsley served as UnitedHealth’s President and Chief Operating Officer before accepting the role as CEO nine years ago. He brings a range of leadership experience to the position, having been a managing partner in both strategy and planning for Arthur Andersen, LLP before joining UnitedHealth Group in 1997, as well as Chief Financial Officer.
MacLennan concluded that his full range of experience, both financially and in leadership roles, would make Hemsley a wonderful addition to the board.
