July 18 is the day that cheese professionals from across the United States will gather in Des Moines, Iowa, for the 40th Annual American Cheese Society (ACS) Conference, “40 Years of Cheese.” From July 18–21, over 1,000 cheese aficionados will come together for educational opportunities, networking, and more.
“The American artisan cheese industry has come a long way since the American Cheese Society was created 40 years ago,” said Tara Holmes, Executive Director of ACS. “I believe the ACS founders would be proud of how far cheeses in the Americas have progressed, and they are now some of the most recognized and respected in the world. It is quite an accomplishment for our organization to have reached this point, and I am proud of our efforts to promote and support American cheeses.”
The conference draws cheesemakers, cheesemongers, distributors, importers, writers, and enthusiasts, according to a release. These attendees will have access to 30 educational sessions covering topics like climate change and sustainability, food safety, food science, and research. There will also be tasting sessions to explore different cheese varieties.

Outside the event, attendees will be able to explore Des Moines’ vibrant cheese scene with a variety of optional experiences, including conference tours and a cheese crawl.
