As the retail and foodservice sectors continue to intermingle in the name of convenience, consumers are benefitting big time from all the ways retailers and foodservice operators are adding value to their operations. One representative from the buy-side who is innovating even this relatively newer concept is SoCal-based independent grocer Barons Market.
According to a report from Grocery Dive, Barons Market is helping consumers with their holiday entertaining with a build-your-own-charcuterie-board station. I repeat: a build-your-own-charcuterie-board station!
Dubbed Barons Boards, the stations are rolling out in eight of the grocer’s Southern California locations and will feature ingredients like baguettes, jams, gourmet cheeses, roasted nuts, dried fruit, and marinated olives—basically, the full deal.
Alongside the ingredients, shoppers will also find tips and tricks on how to finesse the cheeses and olives and baguettes as so on together into an enviable charcuterie board. These tips and tricks will include answers to questions like “what temperature to serve the foods?” or “what types of cheese should be included?” or “how do I include a sweet or fresh component?”—the real nitty gritty of creating a charcuterie board.
We here at Deli Market News are exceptionally excited about this new addition to the retail scene, but will it prove to be as successful as we imagine it will be? And will it catch on with other grocery retailers? The DMN team will continue to report on the latest innovations in the specialty foods sector.
