The Sacramento-based almond growers’ cooperative, Blue Diamond Growers, is expanding into the non-dairy yogurt market, introducing new yogurt products made exclusively with its Almond Breeze almond milk.
The latest of its new branded product offerings, Blue Diamond’s Almond Breeze Almond Milk Yogurt Alternatives, will arrive in stores this month, according to Sacramento Business Journal. The original and vanilla flavored plant-based yogurt will be sold in 24-ounce containers, with the vanilla flavor also available in single-serving 5.3-ounce containers, with topping options including granola, chocolate chips, chocolate almonds, toasted almonds, and honey-roasted almonds.
The plant-based milk substitute market has been booming in recent years, with sales of plant-based milk growing 9 percent and cow milk sales dropping 6 percent between the summer of 2017 and the summer of 2018, according to Nielsen data commissioned by the Plant Based Foods Association.
Blue Diamond’s foray into the plant-based milk products is well timed, as the entire category, which includes cheese, non-dairy ice cream, and coffee creamers, sold $697 million in 2018, an increase of 50 percent from 2017. The yogurt category alone is worth $162 million, a 55 percent increase year over year, according to the news source.
The company has also expanded its product offerings to great success, introducing an almond milk coffee creamer and a new banana flavor of almond milk.
Blue Diamond has bolstered this growth with a 52,000-square-foot expansion of its Turlock, California, manufacturing plant, which will focus on making a component of Almond Breeze.
