Bonnie Kaufman of Marin French Cheese Co. Discusses Seasonal Offerings

Is it too early for me to be rejoicing in the good tidings of fall and winter? According to Marin French Cheese Co., the answer is no. The cheesemaker has multiple offerings that will be the perfect addition to your seasonal displays this year, with two products in particular ready to sit front and center.

Bonnie Kaufman, Associate Brand Manager, Marin French Cheese Co.“Last year, we launched Petite Boo on a very small scale, available only at our retail shop in West Marin. It garnered a generous amount of attention online and across the industry for its fun, festive, and gorgeous pop of color,” Bonnie Kaufman, Associate Brand Manager, told me. “Brie en Croute, on the other hand, is our creamy Traditional Brie wrapped in puff pastry dough and par baked.”

Petite Boo is a seasonal play on Marin French’s elegant Petite Ash Brie Cheese—a small format triple crème brie enrobed in vegetable ash with a paste turned vibrant orange by the addition of annatto. This year, the company opened it up for wider distribution and will be sending just about 10,000 Petite Boos for retail and foodservice.

“A seemingly ordinary Petite Brie, Petite Boo invites consumers for a surprise and delight experience when they cut it open and find a vibrant orange hue inside,” Bonnie continued. “At a convenient 4 oz size, this limited-edition cheese is the perfect addition to any curated Halloween display or gift set, will enhance a classic holiday cheese board, and will ultimately shock consumers with its delicious taste, quality, and versatility.”

The brand's second seasonal offering is Brie en Croute. Heated in the oven prior to serving, the Brie en Croute has aromas of sweet milk and light flavors of mushroom that when melted create a smooth, rich, gooey center surrounded by the flaky pastry crust. As a reflection of over 150 years of experience, this returning seasonal item is an elegant and convenient appetizer or main course that’s perfect for the holiday hosting season.

“We wrap our creamy Traditional Brie, made with fresh local milk from neighboring dairies, in puff pastry dough to create a delicacy that oozes with flavors as the melted brie mingles with the flaky golden crust. This offering is an easy win and only takes a handful of minutes to bake to golden perfection,” Bonnie said. “It’s delightful on its own, but can go sweet or savory depending on accompaniments. Merchandise with accoutrements like aged balsamic, hot honey, or even chocolate sauce to help guide the consumer and add items to their basket.”

Brie en Croute (SRP $16.29) is available year-round for purchase from Marin French Cheese but available in stores seasonally from November to January in winter, and from April to June in the spring. Marin French Cheese Co.'s products can be purchased at a selection of specialty grocers and cheese shops nationwide, found on the store locator on the website, or online at Northbay Creameries.

Place these unique specialty offerings front and center in the coming months and watch as the foot traffic follows suit.
