Dollar General Invests in Workers That Will Participate in COVID-19 Vaccine

Recently, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) released a statement advising essential workers, including employees in the grocery industry, were prioritized for the COVID-19 vaccine, as we reported on our sister site ANUK. While grocers continue to put their employees’ health and safety top of mind, Dollar General is moving forward in the process by announcing it would pay its employees for four hours worth of work if they received the coronavirus vaccine.

“We do not want our employees to have to choose between receiving a vaccine or coming to work, so we are working to remove barriers (e.g., travel time, mileage, child care needs, etc.) by providing frontline hourly team members with a one-time payment equivalent of four hours of regular pay after receiving a completed COVID-19 vaccination and salaried team members with additional store labor hours to accommodate their time away from the store. We’re also working with our distribution and transportation teams to make similar accommodations for those teams,” Dollar General said in its company statement.

Dollar General announced last week that it would pay its employees for four hours worth of work if they received the coronavirus vaccine

Although Dollar General is encouraging employees to get vaccinated, according to the company statement, the retailer is not requiring them to do so. Even so, the company has created a unique strategy that is something we here at Deli Market News are eager to watch.

Dollar General has also proven its commitment to protecting its employees throughout the pandemic.

“While the vaccine is one critical way to slow this pandemic, we continue to take the necessary precautions to help slow the spread of COVID-19, which include wearing a mask or facial covering, practicing good hygiene (including frequent hand washing and use of hand sanitizer), and proper social distancing,” the statement said. “We are staying informed and following guidance from the CDC, as well as state and local health officials regarding continued COVID-19 safety.”
