More and more often, sustainability is taking center stage in companies’ growth strategies. This is true for Graphic Packaging International as the paper-based packaging company has unveiled the launch of two new products to its innovative PaperSeal® tray range, further expanding its reach into the meat and dairy sectors.

Ricardo De Genova, Senior Vice President, Innovation and New Business, Graphic Packaging International"Demand for sustainable fiber-based alternatives to plastic packaging is very high, and we are working on a variety of new PaperSeal tray innovations to assist our customers in meeting their environmental targets,” said Ricardo De Genova, Senior Vice President, Innovation and New Business. “PaperSeal Slice and Wedge are just two examples of how we can diversify our flexible PaperSeal range to meet the sustainability priorities of the individual brands and retailers we work with.”

Following the success of the PaperSeal tray, the new PaperSeal Slice® and PaperSeal Wedge provide brands and retailers with recyclable, barrier-lined, paperboard packaging alternatives to plastic trays for sliced meats and cheeses. According to a press release, both of the new products offer enhanced branding capabilities with high-quality graphics in order to differentiate products on the shelf.

"Compared to traditional plastic trays, PaperSeal Slice typically reduces plastic by 75 percent and PaperSeal Wedge by 80 percent,” continued De Genova. “The innovative new designs also use lighter weight paperboard to deliver reduced pack weights that can support our customers’ packaging sustainability goals. Both are available as formed or flat trays.”

Both the Slice and Wedge solutions were designed to withstand the rigor of the supply chain with high seal integrity and the shelf-life equivalent of traditional plastic trays. Similar to the PaperSeal trays, the top film and line can also be separated from the paperboard to make post-use recycling easier.

As the company’s product portfolio continues to expand, so does its environmental strategies. In line with its commitment to paper-based packaging, the Graphic Packaging Vision 2025 created by the company aims to make 100 percent of its products fully recyclable by 2025, further meeting the goals of its customers and consumers.
