Land O’Lakes is welcoming Pete Kappelman to its leadership team. Kappelman has been appointed Senior Vice President, Member and Government Relations, effective March 11, 2019. In his new role, Kappelman will leverage Land O’Lakes resources to grow profitability and strengthen the company’s technology, talent, branding, and financial services partnerships.
In addition, as Senior Vice President, Member and Government Relations, Kappelman will have direct responsibility for Land O’Lakes’ Member Relations and Government Relations and the Business Development Services and Strategic Asset Management teams. He will also work to offer Land O’Lakes members value-added products and services, like ACT, FLM Harvest, IT services, BuyPoint, member health care offerings, Land O'Lakes SUSTAIN, the Land O'Lakes Finance Company, and more.

According to a press release, Kappelman brings a lifetime of experience to his new role. He is a fourth-generation crop and dairy farmer with advocacy experience and board involvement with many agricultural organizations, including National Milk Producers Federation, the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board, the U.S. Dairy Export Council, the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin, and the UW Center for Dairy Profitability. He has also worked as an Ag Policy Advisor to the Administration for the United States Department of Agriculture and the Office of the United States Trade Representatives and worked with legislators on important ag policy issues, like the Farm Bill, trade, and immigration. Kappelman was named Director of the Year in 2018 by the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives.
As a crop and dairy farmer, Kappelman, his wife, Sherrie, and their three adult children led Meadow Brook Dairy Farms, an operation consisting of 450 milking cows and 1,100 acres of cropland. The family was voted Wisconsin’s 1995 Dairy Farm Family of the Year, with Kappelman himself winning 2018 Dairyman of the Year. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, College of Agriculture.
