The NFL is tackling a different kind of game plan this season, with teams across the league embracing Uncrustables as their go-to snack. The Denver Broncos are leading the charge, consuming a staggering 700 Uncrustables per week, more than double the intake of the next highest team.
"[I eat Uncrustables] probably more than I eat anything else in the world," Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, shared on his New Heights podcast last year, highlighting the snack's popularity among NFL players.
For those unfamiliar with Uncrustables, they're peanut butter and jelly sandwiches without the crust, stored frozen and meant to be eaten after thawing. This childhood favorite has found an unexpected fanbase among professional athletes.
According to a recent report by KXAN, the Broncos' appetite for these crustless wonders far surpasses other teams in the league. With 77 players on their roster, this consumption rate equals approximately nine Uncrustables per player weekly.
The Seattle Seahawks trail behind in second place, consuming 320 Uncrustables weekly, followed by the Jacksonville Jaguars at 315. Other top consumers include the Miami Dolphins (300), Atlanta Falcons (250), and Pittsburgh Steelers (225).
The Chiefs rank 19th overall, consuming about 80 Uncrustables a week. The Cincinnati Bengals and New Orleans Saints round out the list, each team eating about 50 Uncrustable sandwiches weekly.
The Athletic's analysis revealed that the entire NFL combined is estimated to eat about 80,000 Uncrustables annually. However, as stated in the original article, eight teams, including the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, and San Francisco 49ers, either declined to participate in the survey or make their own sandwiches.
This unexpected trend in NFL snacking habits demonstrates the wide-ranging appeal of convenient, ready-to-eat snacks, even among elite athletes.
