Sysco, one of the world’s leading foodservice distribution companies, announced recently that it has acquired two California distributors: J&M Wholesale Meats and Imperio Foods, Inc. In total, the two companies bring in a combination of $44 million in annual sales.
“We are excited to welcome J&M Wholesale Meats and Imperio Foods into the Sysco Family of businesses,” stated Greg Bertrand, Executive Vice President, U.S. Foodservice Operations. “The acquisition of these businesses is a complementary adjacency to our existing California area business and provides Sysco with the opportunity to further extend our reach into the Hispanic customer segment.”
According to a press release, J&M Wholesale Meats and Imperio Foods are sister companies based out of Modesto, California. The two operate throughout Northern California and Oregon. J&M Wholesale Meats, founded in 2003, is a foodservice distributor specializing in center of the plate products, serving foodservice customers and small retail locations in the Hispanic segment. Imperio Foods was founded in 2014 and carried dry Hispanic retail-pack canned good products. Both of the companies executives will continue to manage the business after the acquisition, including Owner and Operator Maria Jimenez.
