When you think of all of the challenges, hurdles, and successes that can occur over the course of 120 years, it makes it all the more impressive to see a brand sustain its legacy and maintain continued growth. As Volpi Foods eclipses another milestone anniversary, I recently spoke with Lorenza Pasetti, third-generation Chief Executive Officer, to discuss the evolution of the company’s vision.
“Volpi Foods was founded in 1902 by my great uncle, Giovanni Volpi. He immigrated to the United States with the determination of applying his craft in this land of opportunity,” Lorenza explains to me. “He set out on a mission to deliver top-quality products for the local growing community to enjoy. The foundation of this was simply to improve quality of life. It was and still is a simple principle that drives our business today.”
One of the key developments spurring future growth for Volpi is its Raised Responsibly™ pork program, which ensures that the supply of meat used follows the company’s values and belief in a sustainable farming model.
In addition, the company has begun offering its products in eco-friendly packaging as a statement of its commitment to reducing plastic use.
Further signifying its growth as a company, Volpi Foods also recently completed a large conversion facility to address the growing demand for thinly pre-sliced, convenient packages for use while entertaining as well as for the weekend gourmet.
“Our business has benefited greatly from the quick adoption of charcuterie items into more American diets. These products are so versatile, simple, and convenient that it attracts consumers of all ages,” Lorenza divulges. “Innovations in products and investments in facilities are a must in this capital-intensive business. Since we make everything we sell in our facilities, keeping current on the technology is critical.”
As Lorenza explains to me, the celebration of the supplier’s 120-year anniversary also marks a time of reflection on its business.
“At our foundation, we are a multi-generational family business aiming to make our world a better place. That requires an investment in sustainability and a focus on longevity. We view our business through a pasture-to-package lens and approach sustainability in this same way,” she says. “Over the years, we have been very grateful to partner with retailers that share our same vision and invest in emerging brands. We are excited to share our products with new audiences through these partnerships and look forward to the next 100 years.”
Cheers to another century of Volpi Foods products!
