Growth and advancement are on the horizon for Walmart Canada, as it recently tapped several executives to new positions on its team. Recently, the Canadian grocer revealed several changes to its leadership ring as part of its transformation journey to elevate the customer experience for its in-store and online customers.
First on the list is Nabeela Ixtabalan.
Ixtabalan is stepping into the role of Chief Operations Officer for the company. She first joined Walmart in 2020 as the Executive Vice President, People and Corporate Affairs. Now, Ixtabalan will oversee the operations and performance of more than 400 stores from coast to coast, serving more than 1.5 million customers daily.
Sam Wankowski is also stepping up, recently being named Chief Merchandising Officer
Wankowski began his career with the Canadian grocer in 2003. He first began with ASDA, Walmart’s former U.K. operations. Wankowski then spent five years in a variety of roles within ASDA before joining Walmart Canada in 2008, where he most recently served as the Chief Operations Officer, according to a press release.
Next up on the list of appointments is Laurent Duray.
Duray joins the executive team as the company’s Chief E-Commerce Officer. Prior to his current role, Duray held various senior positions at Walmart Canada, including Vice President of Strategy and Senior Vice President of Fresh, Grocery, and Consumables. Duray is also credited for initiating the omni-integration within merchandising for the company.
John Bayliss has taken on the newly created role of Executive Vice President, Transformation Officer.
Bayliss will be taking on a bevy of responsibilities for the company. He will be tasked with driving the strategy, innovation, corporate development, new store format, real estate, and transformation agenda for Walmart Canada. Prior to this role, Bayliss was the Senior Vice President of Logistics and Supply Chain of Walmart Canada.
Horacio Barbeito, President and Chief Executive Officer for Walmart Canada, provided his thoughts on these executive appointments.
