In an effort to enrich the cheese industry and invest in its own workforce, the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA) is proud to announce it is now accepting applications for five student scholarships worth a total of $15,000. Supporting the next generation of cheesemakers is just part of a comprehensive culture of giving back to the industry and shaping the future for the better.
“Dairy processing and the myriad technologies and services that support the industry offer limitless opportunity for young people,” John Umhoefer, WCMA Executive Director, commented. “WCMA members are proud to support students in their educational endeavors as they prepare for industry careers.”
Next year, two students will be awarded the WCMA Myron P. “Mike” Dean Cheese Industry Student Scholarship, each worth $3,000. The pool of applicants includes any employee or child of an employee of a WCMA dairy manufacturing, processing, or marketing member company.
Employees or children of employees from WCMA supplier member companies may apply for the association’s WCMA Cheese Industry Supplier Student Scholarship. Of the applicants, three students will be awarded scholarships of $3,000 each.
While the WCMA supports learning of any kind, preference for both scholarship awards will be given to applicants who intend to pursue degrees and careers that connect to the dairy industry, a press release states. Well-qualified students will be currently attending a university, college, or technical school in the U.S., or are registered to attend a qualifying school.
All applicants are required to provide transcripts, a letter of recommendation, and a completed application form by the deadline on February 19, 2020. Anyone interested in applying for the scholarships can find forms at WisCheeseMakers.org.
Successful applicants will be announced in March 2020, and awards will be made on April 15 at CheeseExpo in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Good luck to all the applicants, and thank you to the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association for providing such an enriching opportunity for the industry. Keep reading Deli Market News for more updates on industry opportunities.
