Farm Fresh Rhode Island Food Hub Project Receives $2.2 Million

PROVIDENCE, RI
Wednesday, April 3rd, 2019

The Farm Fresh Rhode Island Food Hub project has gotten one step closer to completion. The Rhode Island Commerce Corporation recently approved $2.2 million in tax incentives for the $15.5 million food hub.

The money will go towards the development of a new 61,500-square-foot building at 498 Kinsley Ave. in Providence, Rhode Island. The project is expected to create 284 construction jobs and 117 permanent jobs.

Gina M. Raimondo, Rhode Island Governor“With today’s exciting announcements, it’s clear that our commitment to economic development and job training is paying off,” said Rhode Island Governor Gina M. Raimondo. “Thanks to Rebuild Rhode Island—which has already created more than 10,000 jobs in our state—Farm Fresh Rhode Island is expanding.”

The 3.2 acre food hub and permanent indoor farmer’s market will co-locate the Farm Fresh organization along with a cluster of local food and farm businesses. A press release noted that this is all in the hopes that local businesses can work together to boost the food industry and production within the state.

The money approved from the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation will help the Food Hub project with its development

The Food Hub is set to create an environment that stimulates job creation and small business success while providing opportunities for nutrition education and job training—such as its Farm Fresh RI Harvest Kitchen, a culinary arts training and production center that works with unemployed Rhode Islanders.
