In these uncertain times, Deli Market News has been comforted to see industry stalwarts supporting those on the frontlines of this crisis. FOODMatch, the Mediterranean specialty ingredient producer, recently partnered with non-profit food educator The Sylvia Center and New York-based catering company Great Performances to provide free and healthy meals to New York’s healthcare professionals, nurses, and doctors.

Phil Meldrum, Founder and President, FOODMatch“A core part of the FOODMatch mission is to help nurture communities and enhance quality of life,” stated Founder and President Phil Meldrum in a press release. “We are fortunate to have an immediate opportunity to impact those who are on the frontline of responding to the COVID-19 crisis.”

Great Performances, which operates the Fresh Meal Fund through which health care workers can access free meals, received 400 meals from FOODMatch. The company has set a personal goal to donate 200 more.

“Our partners are simply incredible,” Meldrum continued. “Not only did they show up and support this cause but the funds needed to provide 200 meals were donated in less than 30 minutes of announcing the initiative. We are truly grateful to our community for banding together to help NYC’s best!”

FOODMatch went on to note that out-of-the-box thinking is needed to help support local food businesses and communities during this time, and that it hopes more programs like this will pop up throughout the country. After all, we can all make a difference!
