Grocery Outlet continues to expand its footprint of discount grocery stores, crossing state borders and lifting its portfolio. The retailer has entered a new state with the opening of a store in Hagerstown, Maryland.
“We are thrilled to open the very first Grocery Outlet store in Maryland and be part of Hagerstown community, offering big savings on quality groceries. This partnership with Grocery Outlet gives us the opportunity to grow our business, create new jobs and, most importantly, give back to our local community,” said Hagerstown Grocery Outlet Independent Operators Gerald and Evelyn Eldred.
The move makes for the chain’s eighth state, with a presence already in California, Washington, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Idaho, Nevada, and New Jersey.
“We continue to reinvest in our business and grow our footprint, reaching more consumers across the nation with our extreme value and treasure hunt shopping experience. Maryland is another important step in our eastward expansion and builds upon our already strong foundation of more than 400 stores nationwide,” said Layla Kasha, Chief New Store Growth Officer, in a statement to DMN.
According to News Post US Zero, this new store has created nearly 25 new jobs in the Maryland community. Adding even more excitement to the store opening, Grocery Outlet announced that through July 14, shoppers can enter to win $1,000 in groceries from the new location.
Further investing in the community, the Eldreds also donated $1,000 to Hope Center Hagerstown and $1,000 to LifeHouse Church.
Deli Market News will keep following this and other expanding retailers as strategies on the buy-side and beyond continue to influence our industry.
