Cincinnati, Ohio-based Kroger is planning out its physical footprint, this time in the Midwest. The retail chain is bolstering its delivery arm with the opening of two new spoke facilities in the Greater Nashville, Tennessee, region and the Chicago, Illinois, Metro Area. Now, the retailer will begin offering Kroger Delivery to more shoppers across each state.
“Kroger Delivery promises an unparalleled shopping and delivery experience, making fresh just one click away at Kroger.com or the Kroger app,” said Bill Bennett, Kroger Vice President and Head of E-Commerce. “From personalized digital offers to our white glove delivery service, the Kroger seamless ecosystem saves time and money. Kroger Delivery orders are brought to customers in our branded delivery trucks and delivered to their doorstep by our trained and uniformed associates—all with zero compromises.”
The retailer’s new Nashville, Tennessee, facility will sit at 40,000 square feet, working in tandem with the grocer’s Atlanta, Georgia, fulfillment center. According to a release, this will increase the network’s reach to consumers up to 200 miles from the hub, employing over 180 associates to operate the facility.
In Maywood, Illinois, Kroger’s nearly 80,000-square-foot facility is located approximately 20 miles west of Chicago. This new operation will work with the company’s fulfillment center in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, to fill orders, also employing more than 180 associates.
This recent expansion extends Kroger’s partnership with Ocado Group, a collaboration that has been in effect since 2018.
“The continued expansion of the Kroger fulfillment network means improved access to fresh food for customers eager for the variety and value offered by Kroger that once could only be accessed through our stores,” said Gabriel Arreaga, Kroger’s Senior Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer. “This network enables Kroger to add scale, achieve reliability of experience, gain from the benefits of automation, and ultimately, widen our customer reach in current operating regions and new parts of the U.S.”
