The 202 area is welcoming the retail experience of Lidl for the first time, as the German retailer is touching down in a new market. Last weekend, Lidl leaders shook hands with government officials as the retailer broke ground on the new store in Washington, DC. This is reportedly the first new supermarket to serve residents in Wards 7 and 8 in more than a decade.
“We thank Mayor Bowser and local leaders for their support and warm welcome to the District,” said Michal Lagunionek, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lidl US. “We are confident that DC residents will appreciate Lidl’s unique and high-quality approach to grocery, which allows shoppers to save money on our award-winning selection of fresh and high-quality products. We look forward to building a great team at Skyland and opening our store once construction is completed later this year.”
Scheduled to open by late Fall 2022, the new store will create approximately 45 new jobs. Lidl offers an impressive assortment of fresh, high-quality products; a fresh bakery; beef, poultry, and fish; and its excellent shopping experience, a press release noted.
The store will be a major part of the area’s Skyland Town Center, which provides essential housing and retail and is continuing to grow.
