The simple, soft pink bags being handed out at MeloMelo’s booth during the Winter Fancy Food Show were a welcomed reprieve from the chaos of the show floor. After the event, I had the chance to reconnect with MeloMelo and learn more about the brand.
“We offer our signature Coconut Jellies made out of fresh coconut water and milk that are our most popular product. They are super light, refreshing, and great for a healthy dessert,” Bella Wang, Owner, told me. “We have other seasonal and non-seasonal flavors as well such as mango puree, strawberry puree, matcha, red bean matcha, nutella, ube, taro, and exotic flavors such as Durian and Dragonfruit.”
In addition to these offerings, MeloMelo also has Non-dairy/Vegan options: Osmanthus Oolong Oat Jelly (Oat milk, Coconut milk, Osmanthus Oolong Mochi, and Osmanthus Oolong Jelly) and Cafe Oat (Oat milk, Coconut milk, Coffee mochi, and Coffee jelly). Descriptions and images of each flavor can be found here.
Yogurt fans are also in luck, as there are seasonal flavors such as the Stravocado (Strawberry, Avocado, Greek Yogurt, and Pistachio) and Strawberry Peach Gum (Strawberry, Peach Gum, and Greek Yogurt). As Bella explained, Peach Gum is resin from Chinese wild peach trees that naturally hardens into a gummy crystalline form on the tree bark.
MeloMelo is a direct-to-consumer brand with six brick-and-mortar stores in Southern California locations: Sawtelle Blvd, Westchester, Rowland Heights, San Gabriel, Irvine, and Korea Town. The first store was opened in 2018.
“MeloMelo started with our simple love for coconuts. We're committed to making and serving delicious, natural, and healthful desserts,” Bella continued. “Every good dessert starts with the best ingredients, and we source the best tasting fruits and milk we can find. When it comes to quality ingredients, you can taste the difference. The old adage goes: You get what you pay for. We've found that often to be true, so we don't skimp or cut corners with cheap ingredients. We've always had high standards when it comes to choosing what we eat, and that carries over to what we serve. You get our very best in every bite.”
MeloMelo is looking to expand into wholesale channels such as retail stores and gourmet/boutique markets and shops. With the health movement only continuing to gain steam, I imagine these products would perform extremely well when placed prominently in the grab-and-go section.
