North Country Smokehouse is making a strategic change to one of its popular product lines. The specialty meat supplier recently announced that it will be converting its North Country Smokehouse Fruitwood Smoked Bacon products to replace “Fruitwood” with “Applewood.” The official effective date is still to be determined, but the supplier will make the announcement by October 15.
“We wanted to make it easy for people in search of natural and humanely raised bacon to find what they were looking for. The name made it easier to identify when customers called looking for clean-label products,” said Aaron Corbett, Chief Executive Officer, in a post from the company. “With growing trends toward sustainability and our commitment to humanely raised and organic farming practices, there’s less of a disparity because humanely raised and organic products are the bulk of our business.”
According to an announcement from North Country, the recipe and item numbers will not change. The packaging will also remain the same, apart from “Fruitwood” being updated to “Applewood” on pack.
The upcoming changes are as follows:
“We are not changing the recipe—it’s exceptional,” said Mike Kelly, Vice President of National Sales and Business Development. “The packaging is identical so the shoppers who are faithfully adding the product to their cart each week, won’t even notice, and new to brand shoppers might give it a try because they’re familiar with the applewood smoke flavor profile.”
