Our sister site AndNowUKnow reported in April that regional grocer Raley’s had opened its new flagship store located in Land Park, which replaced an older store close by. Since then, the retailer has opened two more new locations, leading to an unprecedented era of growth. Further driving this expansion, Raley’s recently transitioned its former Land Park store into an e-commerce fulfillment center.
"The store is filling online delivery orders for the greater Sacramento area. We will resume negotiations with potential tenants when normal business resumes," said Chelsea Minor, Corporate Director of Public Affairs.
As reported by news source Sacramento Business Journal, the decision to temporarily transform the store into a dark format was due to increased e-commerce demand brought on by COVID-19. Though the former location was reportedly planned for a new tenant, this successful shift has set a new trajectory for the retailer.
The company is also investing in its in-store shopping experience, according to the news source, as it recently rolled out a multi-phase redevelopment of a Raley’s location in El Dorado Hills, California.
Prior to Raley's, Whole Foods Market, Walmart, Albertsons, Hy-Vee, and more adopted the dark store concept that Sacramento's beloved grocer is now implementing.
Raley’s explosive growth shows no sign of stopping, so keep an eye out for more reports.
