Sprouts Farmers Market decided to kick this week off with a bang, as the retailer recently announced it has acquired two new stores in Southern California. The locations are independently owned and located in Chula Vista. With this acquisition, they will now be operating under the Sprouts Farmers Market name pursuant to a legacy trademark license arrangement.
“We are pleased to bring these two high-volume stores into the Sprouts fold, allowing us to serve more customers in the San Diego market,” commented Chip Molloy, Chief Financial Officer, in a recent press release from the company.
Acquiring these stores will allow complete control of the Sprouts brand, opening further expansion opportunities within the Southern California market.
According to a press release, the company licensed the Sprouts Farmers Market trademark to a third-party operator many years ago in a one-of-a-kind operating structure; no other licensed Sprouts stores exist.
